“You guys back there know how I feel about this. So I'm going to talk with you up front here. I went to your place. You were in a gas station at one time over in Fort Worth, right? And I went there and it was cool. I really enjoyed it. Looked to go back. And I just want to say to you, I'm going to vote against this tonight, but what I want from you is to prove me wrong. As a non-profit, Your job is to encourage glass art and the appreciation of it, am I right? You want other businesses to get in this, stay in this if they're here. And so I challenge you to collaborate and cooperate and let's…”

“Personally, all I've seen that we've done here commands standing ovation for all of these people that did their work. I would like to make sure they understand. I hope I didn't steal any of your thunder.”

“I'm a reluctant yes on this. I think we wasted our chances.”

“Well, I think we wasted our chances when sometime back, we put a business park back there. You're saying if that wasn't back there, this could have been nice, more of a mixed-use development and walkable and all those things we wanted. Howard's been pleading with me to believe that that wouldn't have happened. I'm not so sure, but... The proof right now to me is in the retailers you bring to this building.”

“If my daughter, granddaughters, all of their friends can spend their money in Arlington instead of going to South Lake, I'll come pat you back, buy you some coffee, and we'll all be happy. But the pressure's on... to bring those type of retailers into that area, and if we can't bring them there, we can't bring them anywhere.”

“I've been in retail, so I grasp what you're saying, mid-block and all of that. But the smaller retails, you can get them.”

  7. Play at 3:37:50
“How do you handle that kind of a situation? I understand the enforcement's the hard part of this. If a neighbor knows that there's eight or ten different people going into a home back and forth every night, How far can we go in coercing that owner to admit that they have actually not registered and they need to? And what is the best way, I guess, for the neighbors to work with your department on how to report and take care of that kind of a situation?”

  8. Play at 3:39:22
“Okay, and the other thing, you mentioned Fort Worth having two different programs. Yes, sir. Is that something we should look at for the UTA area versus the rest of the city, or is that going to be, is that confusing?”

  9. Play at 3:40:18
“Well, I mean, if we were doing the same thing they were doing, I mean, they've got TCU in the middle of their city. We've got UTA in the middle of ours. Yes, sir. Councilperson Garcia-Demar, I want you if she feels like they need another type of permitting or something, I just want to listen to what she might have to suggest on that. Sure, sure.”

  10. Play at 5:18:18
“Not loud enough, I guess. I wanted to kind of hear what everybody said since I was the guy that brought up the 6363. It's $2.2 million. In the grand scheme of things, is that more important than keeping the taxes where they are, doing what we can? We're suffering from the fact that we've done a good job, and I'd say we, even though I wasn't part of setting the, everything that's going on, but I think our city has done a fine job of keeping taxes low, and it's coming back to haunt us right now. And at some point, we're gonna have to bite off a big bone to be able to make up some of the things…”
