“Thank you. Thank you, Madam Chair. I do want to thank the work that has been done. I know we're always trying to do what we can to help our fellow employees. I always look at stuff as an employee. I really do. I mean, I started my adult career right here in Maricopa County. 1988, I was a county employee right out of school. I started my adult career here and I was here for 14 years as an employee and now I have the honors of sitting right here as a supervisor. So I always look at it from a county employee perspective and how it's going to impact them, but I went through the presentation, and…”

“Thank you. No, I just want to, I know, I kind of think I know what the questions are going to be. Unfortunately, I do believe this item is about the RICO fund and not Melendrez. We're not agenda, we don't have it on the agenda. And if the questions could be directed solely to the RICO expenditure report in front of us.”

“Madam Chair, I think, and I've had the opportunities to speak with the county attorney staff It's been a couple years, but I've had to kind of get an understanding why or how it's developed. County Attorney's Office has a process in place. Citizens panel, they go through dozens or hundreds of different requests. And our role is just to ensure, correct me if I'm wrong, is to ensure that the expenditures meet the definitions that are required in statute. That's all we're doing. We're not saying where the money goes, just only if it meets statutory requirements.”

  11. Play at 1:34:28
“Thank you. Madam Chair, just clarification, I think, and I'm not trying to pass the buck, but at the end of the day, it wasn't until a few years ago that the legislature came in and said, because RICO monies was being spent without us even putting on an agenda or even voting and everything came to us. It wasn't until the legislature got upset over a Pinal County issue that and said the Board of Supervisors should be able to at least look at it and make sure it complies with all the state requirements. It fits in the right buckets, I guess. And so that's, correct me if I'm wrong, that's our…”

“No, Madam Chair, I mean, I... REPRESENT A GOOD PORTION OF THIS DISTRICT. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANY, NOT RECEIVED ANY PHONE CALLS, E-MAILS FROM THE DISTRICT OR ANY OF THE BOARD MEMBERS OR ANYONE, EVEN THE SUPERINTENDENT. I'M FAMILIAR WITH THEM ALL. i mean your guess is as good as mine um i have no idea where they move from here um i don't know if there is an avenue through the department of education i was thinking that too i'm just not as familiar i've been on the school board for a long time I'm just not as familiar with this process as I probably should be. “Thank you, Madam Chair and Yasmine. Thank you so much for starting us off today. Appreciate it. Madam Chair, as we all know, the offices kind of rotate and find a special person to come and lead us off in our daily work at our board meetings. And Yasmine, she has been with us for the last two years, two years, two years. ASU student. I didn't know this. She enjoys pickleball. Is that true? Is that true? I didn't know this. Okay. We learn stuff. And she definitely enjoys volunteering her time when she's not here at the county. She's been with the clerk's office for a couple years now, as she…”

    Board of Supervisors · Jul 15, 2026

  23. Play at 2:50:43
“Thank you, Madam Chair. I wasn't going to say anything as well. But now that we're saying our thoughts with Tom, a lot of these issues, particularly when it comes to planning and zoning, It gets complicated. It gets difficult sometimes. So we rely on our experts here at the county to kind of help navigate us. We're trying to look at our neighborhood concerns, and we want to do the right thing. but i just want to say thank you you've been a tremendous asset for district 5 and helping us on so many different projects and and just understanding it you know it's you know it's for someone who…”
