“Thank you so much, Chair. Apologies that I can't be there in chambers or on camera, but I'm feeling under the weather today. I understand that we need to fund a safe and reliable solid waste system, and I do appreciate the work the solid waste division has done to bring this increase down from earlier projections, but Almost every month, this body is considering another cost increase for residents. And as my colleagues have noted, while a 73 cent a month increase for solid waste fees may sound small on its own, our working families and seniors aren't paying these increases one at a time. for…”

“Appreciate the kind words. I just want to reiterate, I spoke about it earlier this afternoon and at our Budget and Fiscal Management Committee meeting. This motion requires two reports that will give us a clearer picture of how the additional 2027 revenue is being used, the division's debt and capital needs, whether the six-year rate forecast remains viable and how actual spending and reserves compare with the projections. And I think that, more importantly, it'll give us something that I don't think we had today, which is a clearer accounting of the cost control measures that the division…”

“Thank you so much. I didn't get to raise my hand fast enough, but I just wanted to thank Council Member Mosqueda for her work on the amendment. I'm very pleased to hear about the forthcoming curbside pickup discount program and appreciate the work with the district on reporting the program's reach and performance. I just wanted to also thank central staff, central policy staff, April Sanders, my chief of staff, Lily Hayward in the solid waste division for their collaboration on this motion, as well as my colleagues on the budget and fiscal management committee for advancing it unanimously and…”

“Thank you, Chair. This proposed ordinance would effectively move the King County Fire Protection District number 24 towards dissolution. And last week, this body confirmed two new commissioners for Fire District 24. They're going to be sworn in shortly. I'd like to give them an opportunity to be seated and understand the district's current situation and weigh in on its future. before we move to dissolve that body. So for that reason, I'm asking that we defer this matter.”

“Thank you so much, Chair. Today we are adjourning our meeting in memory of Tashawn R. Bennett Myers, who was lost to a tragic act of gun violence in SeaTac on July 27th, 2021. I want to recognize not only Tashawn, but also the large and loving family who continues to carry his loss. Tashawn was a father of eight, a son, a brother, a cousin, and a friend. His absence has left an immeasurable hole in the lives of those who loved him. Today we honor Tashawn's life and the memories his family continues to carry. I especially want to recognize the members of his family who have joined us here…”

“Sure, thank you so much. I would say that you are qualified as an engaged resident and you own a business and employ folks here in Kent in our district. And thank you for being willing to serve and for hosting us several times both at your home and your business in meetings so that we could meet with you and other community members. It's been very helpful to have you there so you are qualified. If appointed, what do you believe is the best long term path for Fire District 24 and the residents it serves?”

“Thank you, and Chair, for context, Fire District 37 sits to the west-east. It's right next door, so it would not have to provide its own services. And Fire District, the other option really is Fire District 24 would contract with Fire District 37 for services. make sense for a merger to be the most efficient way and then the fire district 24 wouldn't have to maintain a board of commissioners and maintain all of its structure going forward just for context thank you”

“Thank you, Chair. Thank you, Council Member Muscata, for putting this in the budget proviso. It is, speaking as a long time Harborview Board of Trustee member and Board President, I very strongly support this and I'm very excited to see this move forward. This gives University of Washington Medicine, Harborview leadership, the executive and council an opportunity to have conversations on all sorts of issues that we can't get to every month in our own public meetings here at council. So it allows them to discuss financial and long-term clinical strategies and hopefully the Harborview Bond…”

“Thank you, Chair. I just wanted to thank the sponsors of this amendment. The previous program was one that I had followed pretty closely over the last year or two, and I'm really happy to see the forward-looking approach to this new program and appreciate The idea that we need to let providers know what data they should be tracking ahead of time so that they can plan ahead and work in partnership with the PAO and DCHS as well. gratitude to all of you for putting the amendment together and to the executive's office for agreeing with the approach and working in collaboration to ensure that this…”
