“Why didn't I go first? Well, I don't even remember when I first met you, but I know it was around Monarch High School. And I was able to see firsthand when our granddaughter was going to school there the impact you made on those girls. And I'm sure that was all volunteer. But then when I got to know you in your professional role here, it's just one word describes it. It's a wow. And what you do for others, especially women, other women, in this profession, too, is commendable in and outside of your professional role. Don't say she rose often, but you are definitely one of my she rose for…”

“I compost a lot of food right here in our own recycle center. She prevents the food waste. And I've seen Susan there many times. So anyway, she practices what she preaches. Whereas up to 35% of all food produced is wasted, even though much of it is safe and nutritious and could help feed those in need. And whereas a family of four can save between $1,500 and $3,000 per year by reducing wasted food. And whereas utilizing... Food resources creates stronger and more resilient communities. And whereas we have an opportunity to conserve shared resources such as land, water, and energy that are…”

“All right. I will. I'll keep it brief. But I just want to say that it was definitely a lot of negotiating. And thank you very much for that. In order to get the work week, I know there were several concessions that were made, as well as bringing the contract back open, depending on this amendment that we were just talking about earlier with Senator Polsky. But we couldn't be prouder of the Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Department, men and women, everyone. And thank you for negotiating so fairly today. I think Pam did a great job, too. And thank you for explaining all the details about the Safer…”

“Well, first off, I think it is a testament that actually John Kelly is the first city manager that I met after we moved here in 97. So anyway, I think it's a testament that he came to, I believe, support you.”

“OK. Well, you know what they say about assumptions. But let's just move on to Sheila Rose. And you talked about the grants. And even before I was on the commission, I heard and saw the grant funding happen here in the city, even before it was popular, even before we had the grants manager. But I mean, everybody was on deck about it. It wasn't just one department. And one thing that I think about when I think about Sheila Rose from the first time I was really, really knowing who you were and what you kind of envisioned us to be was Coconut Creek Parkway. Education Corridor. I tell you, I love…”

“Yeah, and listening to the Solid Waste Authority meeting last time, I almost fell out of my chair when they were being brought up that they were going to move forward with selling Alpha 250. I could not believe it. No conversations, no nothing, just because the county decides. So yeah, I'm very much interested because that property has restrictions on it, and we need to make sure that they stay intact.”

“Yeah Okay No, I'm glad you did because I wasn't aware of that last point. So, yeah, I'll just leave it at this. Sad and glad about Brandy, but, you know, wish her all the best. I was glad to be able to be here and see her off. And congratulations, Sheila. You got your extension. See you the next three years.”

“Well, I mean, not only that those were public meetings, but the behind-the-scenes investigations and meetings with all of the staff and the city manager. But anything that we do here to increase, it doesn't just affect others of those 58,000 residents. It affects us as well. So, I mean, we don't take lightly any increase passed on to any of our residents. This one in particular that you just commented on would have had almost a $70 increase if we didn't change the services for waste at all. The additional was to add the curbside recycling, which we had always promised our residents we would…”

“So yes, it was very disappointing, too, when they came before us at the last meeting. And I didn't feel then, and I don't now, that it was a reflection on what was happening within our own city representation. Is the holdup from their submission for their plans or permits to the county?”

“This is a follow-up to the last meeting. In your conversations with them, to whomever you deal with, do you feel that they know that they're on notice, that by November these things should be active and up and running?”

“I wouldn't pretend to follow that one. But an excellent 9-11 presentation tonight. And what a backdrop to have the very, very large flag there. I mean, it's a showstopper. So thanks for everyone that was involved. I'm going to go back to the turnpike before I talk about the MPO. Do we have an update on the clearing of the right-of-way on the west side of the turnpike, south of the sawgrass, because it's extremely aggressive. It's right up to the fence lines. And is that as anticipated? Doesn't have to be answered tonight. But I would certainly be, I just, what is the next step? Because once…”

“We are having a micromobility workshop on November 12, and it is for the MPO, but I just really encourage, if it's livestreamed, if you can take a peek at it, because, you know, as the federal level now, there's a movement towards eliminating bike lanes. So, you know, that could possibly take that off the table. Another suggestion that was made that I thought would really be helpful here is having another Let's Go Biking event and including a facet of that for the micro mobility means of transportation. It's all about the education. The police have done a super job in and around the schools…”

“Well, I... I believe we got a reiteration of the current status of LPRs, et cetera, in our city already in our weekly report. And a one-on-one with the chief and or the city manager going over those remarks would probably be a refresher before we have the public comments or public discussion. I felt comfortable with what we were provided earlier from the police chief through the weekly reports in how our status is for them today.”

“And it's interesting you say that, because I was told that the funds would not be there for turf if lights were not already on the fields. So I guess there was some backpedaling. And I mean, that's OK, because at least the foundation is there and then the rest can follow in whatever means, because I know that's going to come from the school district.”

“I don't want to repeat what's already been said, but I do think the devil is in the details. And just like how we are tasked with educating on Amendment 3, I think the examples, because you and I talked at lunch over an example on... Amendment 3, of what would clearly make it impressive to people if they call 911 and there has been a reduction in our fire rescue that is going to delay time or the dispatcher's delay time in the responders getting there is an example of what could happen if we pass Amendment 3. And I think that was a light bulb to me, and I'm hoping that it resurrects some…”

Whereas hunger affects nearly one million people in South Florida, and whereas ensuring that food is accessible should not be an impossible challenge for our community, and whereas a lack of access to enough nutritious food can have serious consequences on community health and well-being, and whereas since 1981, Eating South Florida has worked to end hunger in Coconut Creek, by providing our community in need with immediate access to nutritious food and whereas Feeding South Florida leads hunger and poverty advocacy efforts in our community while…”

“Thank you. No, I totally agree. I asked the city manager in my agenda review that this must be presented to us before the meeting. And I meant like a day or so before. And the headings, I totally agree. We're not police talk. We're not red speed violation talk. So they definitely need to be spelled out as to what they are. NOV, notice of violation, it makes sense. But it needs to be spelled out. where anyone that's reading it could understand what the numbers are below that. And I still need to understand, you said that there were 10 permits still with the county. Correct. But we've heard…”
