“Anything else? I'll just make a couple comments myself. I honestly think we're fairly close. We're getting hit from both sides. And I used to be an umpire in baseball, and that kind of tells me you're probably doing OK if both sides are complaining about you. I think we are really close. Personally, I'm for personal property rights, but this town exists as a tree city, USA. There is no doubt that the tree canopy is a big part of what attracts people to Surfside Beach, so we do need to thread the line, walk the line, thread the needle, don't mix our metaphors, and get this done properly. so…”

What I would like to do is make a motion to direct the administration to set up a workshop, hopefully a final workshop on the tree ordinance as soon as reasonable. so that we can address this maybe within a month or so. I'm not going to hold it to a month, but just have a workshop so that we can review this in a near, so that we can do the second reading in a near meeting, a regular council meeting.”

“All right, I'm going to step in there too then. I definitely do not want to send it back to the Planning Commission. I think Planning Commission did a good job. I don't think we stripped it. I think we have maintained a lot of what was in there. It is certainly the framework of what we have now. I would prefer to just see a workshop if something in that workshop comes out that we need to diverge us into multiple ordinances or it's so radically different that it needs to go back to Planning Commission. I think we could address that at that time. But right now, what I would like to do is just…”
