“Yeah, I don't have... I mean, look, do I have other things going on this summer? Yes, I'll have to figure out how to make it work, but I don't. August is...”
“Yeah, and honestly, if people aren't taking off on big trips in August, I would like to keep the momentum and keep meeting.”
“in july i don't want to i don't want to recess june because it's we're all still busy and active and happening people are here so can we recess july what's the problem with that you want to recess you i mean i mean we have i have kids so to me it's normally when families are out and traveling people are not here”
“No, let's just take off August then. All right. I mean, if people wanna recess, I think August is the reasonable time. There's still a lot of activity happening in June. And if we've already got stuff scheduled in terms of workshops.”
“Yeah, no, we agreed on August what the attorney is suggesting is moving the date in July from the third week to the fourth week.”
“No, let's keep the budget workshops as we've just agreed and move the July commission meeting to the 28th. That's fine.”
“This, this, this, hang on a second. This now forces the sustainability and resilience task force to swap. So we got to get notice to them tomorrow about changing their meetings to the third, the third Tuesday in June and July. Those meetings are important. We cover a lot of ground. All right. Is everything buttoned up on this item?”
“Yeah, I support it 100%. And I look forward to talking through. the details of the project, but I think it's an amazing initiative. I love the, bless you. I love the proposal for the location. I support it all the way.”
“Congratulations. Thank you. New Park. 14C, discussion and possible action regarding the issuance of a proclamation designating June 17th, 2026 as North Bay Village No Hate Day in partnership with the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate sponsored by Commissioner Richard Cervone.”
“Discussion to establish the grand opening date for the Villages Community Center.”
“Here's what needs to happen. The community center needs to be ready. We need to know when AFA is doing their event, and we need to confirm that Brent Latham is in town. Those are the three things that need to happen. What progress has been made on those three things?”
“Yeah, I'm of the opinion that even if it's not finished finished, we need to do the grand opening at the beginning of the summer because we can't do it during the summer and doing it at the end of the summer and at the beginning of the school year loses the momentum for having a grand opening because people are going to be utilizing the facility over the summer. So I like the idea of Friday, June 5th. I spoke to Brent at some point this week and he said that he would be here. He also couldn't promise because his travel schedule with FIFA is kind of up in the air. So the most important thing…”
“I completely agree. And the deeper we get into hurricane season, the more likely it is that it rains. This event is envisioned as a block party. Like, yes, there will be components of the event that are actually inside the community center. But there's no question that the grounds are going to be available, that people are going to be able to walk around and explore, that all of the landscaping, the sidewalks, the lighting, the fields, those are going to be done. And the bulk of this celebration is on Galleon Street.”
“Right, it's on Galleon Street, and it's going to feel like a block party. Yeah, I really would like us to do it in early June.”
“Exactly. Sounds good. yeah good luck okay go forth get those sponsorships i hope the members of the committee feel empowered to to be working on sponsorships i spoke to a couple members of the committee i don't know if it's clear that they should all be going out and seeking sponsorships i think they tried to like maybe delegate to one or two people please like convey that is there a budget idea what is the budget for this”
“We've only budgeted 30,000, which is why we're pushing sponsorships.”
“I'm supportive of all of that, but right now I need them to just focus on the immediate task at hand, which is why the committee was established.”
“So staff managing that meeting needs to keep them within the scope of what their committee exists to do. We obviously want to continue to hear feedback about ways to just Squeeze every possible community building opportunity from the community center, of course. But for the next six weeks, their job is to execute this event. And, you know, I'm disappointed to hear that Kristen has been delegated exclusively on fundraising that wasn't the vision for this committee at all.”
“Yeah, that's, that wasn't what we asked for. So please write the ship.”
“If you need me on Thursday night to come speak to them, I'm happy to just let me know. Okay.”
“Okay. Yeah, I would like to make that work. If there are things that we can do to help, let me know.”
“Okay. All right. I'm confident we can make something work.”
“Okay. Discussion and direction on a proposed city bike docking station. Vice Mayor Cook and Commissioner Acosta.”
“One of the issues with CITT is the percentage that needs to be spent on spent on mobility, actual mobility.”
“Exactly. The answer is yes, we could spend CITT funds.”
