“Council President, I just had a question. Where is this located? Like, what section of the Riverfront Park? Deputy Mayor?”
“Yeah, I noticed that as well, that it said East Ward. So I'm pretty sure it's not the East Ward. Councilman, council probably can verify that. So if we can make that necessary change.”
“And peoples are going up, but we're not using as much.”
“Yes. So what was happening here was that a lot of our crews, meaning the city of Newark, whether it was the water sewer department or something else, couldn't start till 9 a.m. I looked into the Board of Education. Approximately 80 to 85% of the students are in school by 8 a.m. already. So school starts at 8.15. And so this is not going to have a... big interference in parents getting their kids to school. And what happens is that, for example, our water and sewer department may start at 7 a.m. and they're getting paid for those two hours while waiting to go out on the street and do the work.…”
“It was nine and that's why we're burning it back to eight. Once again, I think the city does a good job putting out the alerts, traffic advisories. I see them all the time on social media. It's incumbent upon our residents to see those alerts as well, to know that maybe they have to get up a little earlier. But again, this is something that creates a burden for not only for the city where we're paying people just to sit around, but it's a burden on the companies that do work for the city as well and so that's the only thing it was a 9 a.m to 8 a.m start 80 to 85 percent of the kids are in…”
“Well, if they're working at seven, then the city needs to crack down on that, obviously.”
“Good morning. So first of all, I just want to give Valerie Murphy a shout out because they do a great job. They're in constant contact with my office and they do an amazing job in the East Ward. So I just want to give her a shout out. She's here today. I've always said it from the beginning. I've always said it from the beginning that code enforcement needs to be a seven day a week operation. Just like DPW, seven day a week operation. When you're talking about that illegal dumping task force, I worked in it in the 90s for Newark police with a member of code enforcement. Do you know what our…”
“yeah about i know councilman council had mentioned at the last meeting um about the 10 days it's still showing up on the letter when we pass the ordinance uh along with the the business administrator in the administration for 48 hours why is why is that 10 days still showing up on the letter that the person's receiving”
“But you are aware that it's not 10 days anymore. It's two days. Okay.”
“THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT. JUST ONE MORE QUESTION. JUST SO I UNDERSTAND FOR CLARIFICATION, ILLEGAL CONVERSIONS. We send code. Hang on. Because I've called him before. So that's why I'm saying this is for clarification purposes. So I understand. We call your office. You went out to a location, but then you notified UCC to go out and put the orange sticker, red sticker, whatever it is. So when it comes to your conversion, just go directly to UCC? Or do you guys have to go out there first to determine what's going on and then you notify UCC? we both can go out it depends on what the circumstances…”
“COUNCILMAN. YES, COUNCILMAN. DIRECTOR. DIRECTOR. JUST ONE QUESTION, BECAUSE I RAN INTO THIS LAST NIGHT. AND THIS COULD END UP BEING A PROBLEM FOR YOU AND A PROBLEM FOR THE CITY. HOW MANY PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE I ran into a woman yesterday from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, homeless now in the East Ward. I asked her how she got here. They said they gave her a bus card because there were no services in Scotch Plains. Is that impeding on what we're trying to accomplish here to try to help our own Newark residents first?”
“to hear the great work that the mayor is doing here um and you know it it is absolutely difficult just to say i think this needs to be a a bigger conversation here that if we're going to have those people here and they have a right to services but obviously our newark residents have preference that we go back somehow and build those other cities go after them financially for sending their homeless or their residents without addresses to this city. There has to be consequences for them not taking care of them where they currently live. and now putting the onus and the responsibility on the…”
“Councilman Silver. So, just so you understand, ma'am, we follow the ADA guidelines that the federal government sets. And that's why there could be something there that it's not us that implements it, it's the federal government due to the ADA guidelines. So I'm not saying anything by your denial about anything else, but I just want to let you know we follow ADA standards that are set by the federal government. So I just want to let you know that part.”
“Councilman. Just a quick question for the Deputy Mayor. Our letter is going to be sent out to homeowners regarding this. How will we get the message out there? Because in my ward, we do have a lot of this going on. Like Councilman Ramos was saying, it's not only the bigger buildings, it's homes as well. And so how are we going to get the message out to them?”
“President Quintana. Yes. Council President, if I could just elaborate a little bit. There's a time of essence here on this, and the building that's going to be built is 100% affordable. So I just want to make that clear, and that's the reason why we're here today, and this is on as an added starter because time is of the essence, but the building is 100% affordable.”
“Yes. Councilman Silva. Yes. Just real quick. A gentleman came up today, well, a young lady came up today about the Anchor. Just so you know, that's a state-run program. But we do have two Anchor events coming up in the east, October 7th. October 31st call my office we'll give you all the details it's on my councilman page and we'll we're gonna be helping out our seniors because again this is a state-run program but our state legislation legislators get together and I'm sure they're gonna be doing it in other places throughout the city but in the East Ward there's one on October 7th and one on…”
