“YOU MENTIONED BRIEFLY THAT, YOU KNOW, OUR STATE HAS DECIDED THAT YOU GUYS ARE FUNDED BY SALES TAX. AND SO, TO ME, I'M JUST GETTING INCREASINGLY SENSITIVE, OBVIOUSLY IN SUPPORT OF THIS, BUT INCREASINGLY SENSITIVE ABOUT TAX INCREASES FOR EVERYTHING. AND SO IS THERE DISCUSSION, ARE YOU HAVING DISCUSSION AT THE LEGISLATURE AROUND HOW IS THERE OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE THAT MODEL WHERE THE STATE HELPS FUND IT MORE OR I DON'T KNOW.”

“Council Member Sturgis. So going back, I'm just trying to understand. So is that, so there's, I know that the RCW says that currently. So why is there no way to change that? And not saying that you're not doing all the work to try to. This is a question to our state that I will, you know, go research more. But I'm curious just of what you, what your thoughts are.”

“Thank you. Thank you so much for the information. Based on, you said this one isn't like the other one where it's a bill change that's requiring it. So do we have a lot of requests for this? And if so, what types of businesses are typically the businesses that owners are wanting to live in their unit?”

“And I think just for clarification, because I've seen the model, I mean, the model is awesome and it works really well in a lot of cases where, I mean, if you have someone who owns the home and then makes it storefront into the front, so like a shoe repair place or watch repair, jewelry repair, We've seen that work really well. But then also there's lease options as well. So if a developer is building these units and they're gonna be a landlord, then the business owner can go in and lease the unit and they're running their business in the front like an alteration store and then they're living…”

“So it's not an opportunity for a developer to come in and build?”

“Sorry, Council Member Sturgis. Just in response to what you're talking about, I think that, I mean, I would, based on where they're going to build makes the difference there for me. And so if it's in an area where we're trying to build commercial business storefronts, retail storefronts, You know, typically the business owner's intent is that they're going to have a real business there. And that's why they'd even go look for a property like this. And then if it's in a residential, I mean, some of them, I know this is more on the East Coast, but the residential areas where they're built in…”

“I guess my comment to that would be that for Jason and his team, that's where they're really negotiating with whoever the developer is on the front end. And it doesn't need to be written into code. It would be that if this is a development that's in our city, then your team would be negotiating as you're going through the permitting process with the developer on Hey, we're really looking for this area to fulfill, you know, a certain amount of retail businesses or what have you, but does that have to be put into code?”

“I guess to me it would be that we should have a leave keep our personal social media personal and that would be for opinions so nothing regarding city of Auburn but then um is it suggested that we we do a separate social media account as a city council member then or um Well, I don't even like social media anyway, so I would not want to have a separate account. So I don't know. I guess because to me it's pretty cut and dry. You're not allowed to speak on behalf of the city. It's in our council rules and procedures that if you do, it has to be in a positive light, but it could be then open for…”

“I would say yeah, because I think it's great guidance. I really appreciated, too, just the quick test questions at the end. You know, it seems silly, like common sense, but it's helpful. We do have personal lives, too, and opinions. And so I think that just I thought you guys did a great job. It was really clear and just gave us some good examples. And so as a new council member, you know, being able to get this when you're onboarding either in training or part of the rules and procedures of this is I would hate to add anything to that. But it is good clarity. So I would be in supportive of…”

“Nothing to report, Council Member Sturgis. The SFA for October 12th, I believe, is the date for the next study session. There'll be an update. Chief Collier's just confirming that for Project BeFree. And then also Candace is putting together plan to put a presentation and give us an update on all things court. She may be coming to us prior to that, though, for a budget amendment because they need to be able to have staff to continue propping up the court. But she has a great update. She's preparing for October 12th. Thank you. Council Member Lott?”

“Thank you, Mayor. Adopting resolution number 5910 will have us take this lease and replace the existing concessionaire agreement for Bogies Public House at the Auburn Municipal Golf Course. The new lease provides a more organized and comprehensive framework that better defines the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of both the city and the tenant. And, yep, that's it.”

Thank you. Questions or comments from council?”

“Thank you, Mayor. Last week I had the opportunity to, I was super honored to be invited by a local nonprofit, the Washington Ethnic Studies Now in the Seattle area to serve as a guest speaker at their first annual Youth Power Lab. It was a summer camp program for high school age students. middle school and high school. And I got to spend time with about 15 to 20 young folks from across the region. There was a couple students all the way from Thurston County there in Beacon Hill. And each of these young people signed up because they were seeking an opportunity to be uncomfortable and step out…”

“Very good. Thank you. Council Member Sturgis. Thank you, Council Member Baldwin. Thank you guys so much. Just a quick question on when you're saying that private property owners could pay a fee to be included in the city's overall repair. Do you have an idea? I'm sure it's different, but is there a typical fee of what that is?”

“Council Member Sturges. Thank you. The site is awesome, by the way, the website there, so thank you. But how, if I'm a community member who has private property and wants to reach out to you to be included, how do I get a hold of you? Is it through the same contact information here?”

“Council, do we have questions? Council Member Sturgis. Thank you. Thank you guys so much. Lots of awesome updates. One quick question about the golf carts and future flooding. Is there, have we done preventative measures in the basement to where this won't happen again if there's another flood to the new carts? Or what's the plan there?”
