Thank you. I have a couple of questions. So this council has passed policy around vision zero as we've already talked about and it's well called out in here. My question is about the prioritization factors. When I'm looking at the numbers that are on here, the vision zero numbers together total 15 and I'm wondering if that is sufficiently high enough to reflect the priority that we have as a council and as a community to reduce chaos size. And I was worried I went pretty deep in the numbers and how they ended up ranking in the appendixes. So I'd like you to speak to that because my knee jerk…
No, I appreciate that. And, I mean, obviously we want a network that's connected and comfortable. That is obviously what we're working towards. And in the interim, I mean, those KSI numbers, they just need to go down. And I'm worried that in this first round of ranking, Um, and, and I know you had the priorities later of all of the projects and they're not then number they're like grouped as it were. Right. So I'm wondering if there's a way to sort. So when I looked at it, uh, like number six, they all, a bunch of them tied number 10, which I don't know, a bunch of time, number 10, and they…
You know, the groups. So in the document, there's a group on how many projects are all listed that scored a 10 and above, as it were. So you're saying for those, when they go into the CIP, then they're also ranked again using the CIP rubric?
Okay, no, that's helpful. And it's just using the data. And what I hear you saying, there's also other factors, I want to say that are narrative, but they're not data related that are also part of the conversation in the ranking. I appreciate that, that clarity and my opportunity to emphasize that this, this is a real commitment of the community. and of this council. You've mentioned, my next question, you've mentioned, and many of you brought up the traffic calming pilot, and we're talking about projects a lot and programs in here, and I know we're still building out our traffic calming…
in an adjacent space with a community member who was looking at what is San Rafael doing around bike and ped mobility. Oh, how does it affect my neighborhood? Oh, here's this because they might not go through all the technical because I really think they're related. Okay. Thank you. When we look and vice mayor asked this question, but I just want to make clear and Jimmy, you had talked about that. Like I think you called the infrastructure implementation category. So when there's new development, we know that there's some pretty big projects coming in. We have Northgate, for example. So how…
And I think that's important because we did receive an email that someone said very specifically, I read the whole plan and I didn't see that. So it might be a little subtle that you have looked at incoming development units, but, and it's been reflected. I hear you saying it, you answered the previous question, but it might not be communicated.
Yeah. Thank you. No, it's nice to just underscore that in this right now. One last question. When we talk about funding, you talked about the $47 million already brought in previous projects. Congratulations to the DPW team, that is not easy to do. Those are big numbers. And those are bigger than other jurisdictions around here. See, and the delta or the number was 70 to 90 million of what's needed. So there's a delta there. I'm curious if you're seeing that city matches are required. Do you think that they're required more and more going forward that IE a city match means that the city has…
But there are some funds that we'd want to go after that require a match and just some of the pots of money. I mean, that's just the reality. If we don't provide a match, then we don't have the opportunity.
Thank you. Thank you. I don't see any other questions right now, so I will go ahead and open up the public comment on this item. If you would like to comment, you are welcome and not required to say your name and what part of San Rafael you live in. Or if you're a member of BPAC, you don't have to.
Thank you and welcome Shane to MCBC. I thought they were coming down here. Any other public comment in the chambers? I don't see any additional public comment. Is there any public comment online?
Thank you. I will close the public comment and bring it back to the council for their own comments. I'll start with the vice mayor. Go ahead.
City Council Chambers, Councilmember bushy.
Thank you. So, thank you to both of you as well as Kelly and for all the work. I really appreciated Jimmy's opening comment that this is 1 of the best plans in the county. So, way to have us, like, really start to pay attention to the next thing that you're going to say. Um, you did already hear what I said about vision 0 and I'm sure that you all read the most recent. um edition of governing.com magazine which also is printed for public servants uh but they there's a whole article about a roadmap for vision zero somerville mass hasn't had a traffic a pedestrian bike fatality in three years…
And I'll second. Moved and seconded. Roll call, please.
Aye. That motion carries 5-0. Excellent job. Thank you. We have another item on our agenda this evening. It is a second street and fourth street intersection improvements project.
Thank you. Yep. We will call you back in once this agenda item is concluded. All right. Let's proceed. Thank you.
our psa for console for construction management that's a lot so thank you let's hope you have any questions thank you gray thank you director miller uh questions vice mayor i actually don't have any questions i appreciate all the detail and on information and okay that's it okay questions i don't have any questions wow very good customer was she
City Council Chambers, All right, thank you. Thank you, I just have a couple questions so you had met with the neighborhood in 2025 not 2027 i'm curious if there's been a more recent or is this what they saw when you met with the neighbors that were there and I know it was informal but. i'm just curious what you just presented us in terms of the design.
So when you met with them, was there input that you heard that you were able to accommodate? Because, I mean, obviously it's big, it's very much an engineering logistical issue, and I understand that, but were there other things that the neighbors brought up because they lived there that you were able to incorporate in the design? And it could be things like around parking, there were conversations around that.
Because I know the parametrics looked at that. And I know some of the suggestions were possible removing a parking. And I just want to make sure we're very careful if that were to happen. Because some of those houses, I mean, I know that area very, very well. There isn't another place for them to park, especially on West Street.
Well, it seems like you heard from the neighbors to minimize that. So thank you for making that decision and not bringing that before the council. because we've had some very vocal and very concerned neighbors about that. Last question, and maybe this is part of the West End traffic upgrades. I am so curious if AI or smart traffic lights could help with some of the movements like they've done down at the Miracle Mile, Red Hill Center, whatever, the hub.
Um, so we do have a platform that we've been, and that could be applied to this project specifically, which has a lot going on. A lot of, yeah, yes.
Fantastic. And then the last question was, have you been talking to DPW or the, we haven't, I don't know, we haven't been talking to our colleagues in San Anselmo and Fairfax. So I'm just trying to figure out how do the other communities know that this is going to happen and maybe they go a different way. Maybe they go around Sir Francis Drake where the work is being done and just making sure how, like the type of outreach, make sure the other jurisdictions know it's coming.
So, um, yeah, we're just going to, and maybe one of those changeable signs. So when you get ready, to start as people are coming down Miracle Mile, they'll know that there's construction happening. So they'll slow down.
Fantastic. Thank you. I don't see any other questions. I'll open it up for public comment on this item. If you'd like to comment, now is your opportunity to do so.
