Yeah, if I could get a motion to restore the $100,000 that was cut from the mayor's budget and hold the floor for discussion.
Maher, all right, the floor is yours, sir. Yeah, and I didn't get this email. It wasn't on my email this afternoon, but I just saw this in front of me now. The 2027 proposed budget for the mayor office is the lowest that it's been in five years, eight, 90, 61. I just think it's important a city our size to have a chief of staff, kind of have the second charge per se. The amount of work that the mayor office has gotten done in the term has been impressive. WE THROW NUMBERS WRONG QUITE A BIT. HOW DO WE COME TO THE NUMBER FOR CHIEF OF STAFF WAGES AND PAY WHEN WE HIRE SOMEBODY LIKE THAT AND WE PUBLISH THAT?
I think it's crazy this town hasn't had a chief of staff or an executive assistant, whatever we call that. You look at any other major corporation that's a $300 million corporation, And to have their CEO manage everybody by themselves, and oh, by the way, you're expected to be at every community event, kiss all the babies, cut all the ribbons, and not have somebody there to support that person is crazy. So I'm in a huge support of the chief of staff person and in opposition to this and to take human beings with the stroke of the pen tonight without any fair warning or what we do next or where…
Yeah, I would hope we're marketing our city when our biggest asset and revenue generator is sales tax. So whether we call this a municipality or a business, everybody wants to run your municipality like a business. That's the tagline always. Yet when you try to do it, then you hear pushback. So I sure hope that we take marketing of this town serious or why build a sports complex because nobody's going to come.
Yeah, I would speak in opposition to that. There's very few things in this council where somebody calls you and gives you an attaboy and gives you more than one attaboy. And I wasn't here for the celebration. I was family reunion for us. Lots of attaboys for the work that was done for the celebration. and just got the email today about the economic impact. Again, we're selling Rapid City, we're selling tourism, we're selling the dollars that come to this town. This is such a small investment into this community.
