“Commissioner Hampton, I'd like to say something about District 3 MSTU. At this time I would like to make a motion to keep district 3 ad valorem collection the same as last year That would be cutting my district funds by 22,000 I think it is twenty two thousand two hundred and thirty three dollars Is that the one which would be the rollback rate of negative one point three one?”

“It's actually a little more than rollback, right?”
Board of County Commissioners · Sep 15, 2026
- Play at 4:45:27
“It's beyond rollback. It's to make the dollars the same as last year, which would take it down below rollback.”

“County Administrator Don Donaldson, you get a lot of credit for that, too. It's the team. No, you can't take any credit. I can't take any credit, no. Stephanie understands.”

“As I understand Commissioner Campy's motion It's basically a motion to bring forth research and information. And while that is very laudable, I think the motion should be stronger than that. And I know there's a motion and a second. Wait.”

“Could we clarify that just a little bit more by saying that you're making a motion to have the county attorney prepare an ordinance or a resolution to have a one-year moratorium? Is that basically the same thing as you're saying? Yes. Okay. I'll support that.”

“I also want to begin by mentioning another individual that we have lost in our community. His name is Mark Budenseek, and he was a big figure in District 3 down in Hobe Sound. He is the sheriff's cousin, and he lost his battle with cancer at a rather early age in his late 50s, and he will be greatly missed by people all over Martin County and particularly in Hope Sound. I want to thank him for his service to our Sheriff's Department and to the Corrections Department and to thank him for his impact in our community. I also want to congratulate Commissioner Hurst. for another election, and it's…”

“So you're wanting suggestions on who should be one year, who should be two, and who should be three?”

“You know, when looking at the types of things that people can get and what they can use the SHIP funds for, I think We ought to publicize that a little bit. Some of the things that I saw were rental assistance, owner-occupied rehabilitation of your house, emergency repair, and even water sewer hookup, right? So if you know of folks who are fiscally constrained and could use some funds for these types of purposes, think about them and let them know about this program. It looks like the encumbered amount is $1.4 million. Is that about the amount of money we spend each year on this program?”

“I'd like to commend you for your use of native plants and remind everyone why that's important. Native species do not require all of the fertilizers and chemicals that non-native species require. And oftentimes when you think about what is native, the list is shorter seemingly than many people think. Generally, if they have really beautiful flowers, they're probably not native. So keep that in mind, and we all need to focus on doing all we can to use native plants because all that fertilizer gets in the waterways eventually. So if we change some of our practices, that'll get better.”

“I'll second and I would like to thank our partners. I was noticing who they are. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Florida Inland Navigation District and I think we have one here, Florida Department of Emergency Management. Did I miss anybody?”

“There's been a lot of interest in helping the unhoused and a lot of comments made for many of our meetings and I know there's a lot more that we could probably do but something came to mind that doesn't really get mentioned and that is what are we doing now and there are some things we're doing now. We have a category of spending in our budget called Grants and Aids. And I thought I would just mention that we do provide several of our grants and aids that bring benefits to the unhoused. I'm looking here at a list. One is called Veterans Homeless, $10,000. Another one is Treasure Coast…”

“How tall are these towers usually? Is this common, 120 feet?”
Board of County Commissioners · Aug 11, 2026
- Play at 1:10:30
“So the 120-foot height is a common height for such towers?”

“Okay. And I have one question for our county attorney. How? This issue of towers in Martin County has been an issue in the past where people have wanted the county commission to intervene and perhaps prevent a tower from being located somewhere. I think there was one right in a neighborhood that created a stir.”
