“Council Member Nazarian, thank you so much for bringing this presentation. I know I recently was able to go visit the dam and had a really great time being reminded of all the history and the intentionality that was put behind building the dam and just how much it is tied to Los Angeles history and how much the Department of Water and Power is tied to Los Angeles history. And it's definitely part of what makes us a great and very different city. So to all of you who are in the works day to day to make sure that we have constituents who just wake up and turn on the faucet and the water is…”

“Good morning, colleagues. I want to thank LA Food Policy Council for continuing to come each and every year and reaching out to different offices to make sure that we are cognizant and intentional about making sure that we recognize that those who are fighting for food justice are equally important and equally part of the battle to improve our community. I appreciated how you mentioned that this is part of the social justice conversation. This is part of the environmental justice conversation. And as we look at the organizations who are here doing the work, I thank you and I congratulate you…”

“Yes, of course I wanted to speak today. You know, I want to start off by saying, Councilwoman Isabel Jurado, I want to take a minute to actually just congratulate you. You know, congratulations for being the first Filipina American on the LA City Council. You're now in the history books. That's a big deal. And congratulations to you for continuing to be an advocate to elevate your community. And I want to thank you for being a partner in helping me create the Kappa Square. A lot of people were asking me, where did this come from? Why did you want to do this? And my answer was, well, on the…”

“One last thing. One thing that I was asked, one of the reporters asked me, what is your favorite Filipino food? And I said, well, lechon, because it's just like carnitas, and I love carnitas. But believe it or not, I went home and kept sleeping on it. I was like, I don't think that's accurate. So with that, I just want to say, I want to give mad props to my roommate from college, Katrina Esplana, because of her, it is actually beef and broccoli, but with oyster sauce.”

“I love oyster sauce. I was introduced to oyster sauce through her and the Filipino flavors. That is my favorite food. It is always in my refrigerator and my favorite way to now make beef and broccoli.”

“I BELIEVE WE HAVE A SLIDE. Members of the Council, as many of you know, a few weeks ago, I left to Mexico for bereavement. And today, I rise for that. I rise in the memory of my mother's brother, my uncle, Jose Luis Ramos, born May 10, 1955, in Atinguillo, Jalisco. He is survived by his wife, my tia Lily, Martha Lydia Lopez, his daughter, Esmeralda Ramos, and my eldest niece, his granddaughter, Felicia Ramos. And he has left us three grandchildren, counting Felicia, Ozzie, and Abby, and he is the only uncle with great-grandchildren, Aiden and Ethan. He was the fourth born of 11 children, the…”

“Today, me and my team from the 6th District are here in Lake Balboa at Woodley Park where we are celebrating our second annual Howdy with Love. This is our annual animal healthcare pet resource fair where families can come and get low-cost vaccines. They can get access to microchipping, grooming, adoption and fostering, and giveaways. Just a lot of different resources for our friendly pets at home.”

“So our families here in the San Fernando Valley love their pets. This is the type of event where you can find those resources at an affordable price. So what we'd like to do is make sure that the community knows that there's resources out there and make it more affordable, be able to enjoy also a day at the park where our pets can also run around.”

“I'm incredibly proud for the grand opening of this Alinda Tiny Homes Village. It's a new resource that will expand our efforts to address homelessness, bring people indoors, and place the unhoused neighbors on a path towards stability and permanent long-term housing.”

“Good morning, everybody. Well, council members, I wanted to applaud you for taking on the leadership to elevate this really important topic. Once upon a time, when I was a community organizer at Procurement Beautiful and I was in charge of the adult group, a lot of women would come out, right? Once a month, they would come and they'd get educated and they would take these community-based workshops. And then we started to ask ourselves, how do we get more men here? And it was really hard to get them to come out to these meetings. But we started off with telling the women, well, why don't we…”

“Well, I was so happy when I saw we were going to have this presentation today. 50 years is a long time, so congratulations. But, you know, I think, I don't think you guys are giving yourselves enough credit. I think this is definitely a council where you, These investments that Liberty Hill has done in the last 50 years are very much embedded in a lot of our resumes and a lot of who we are. You know, everyone knows I would have liked to see Coffee Too. I would have loved to see Michelle Pritchard. But I see so many of you that I have known over the years. Through my own career, I've always…”

“I just wanted to take a second to thank everybody again for . As you guys see, I still gained a lot of momentum, and I couldn't have done it alone. I'm glad you all had a great time, and let's continue to open up the building in this way, because the community really, I think, felt what sometimes we say in our presentations when people come in, this is your city hall. It shouldn't take a lifetime for folks to figure out that this is their city hall. Thank you.”

“Members, I just wanted to express some gratitude to all of you who came yesterday, those that, some of you partners, some of you attended, most of you sent me a text of some sort congratulating me on a great event. Well, I couldn't have done it alone. But I also want to give a lot of gratitude to the Department of Cultural Affairs They really were the lead on this with me. And just everyone that played a role, the best comment that I got this morning was from GSD when they told me, we can't tell you how much we love it when this building is activated and how much attention was put into that.…”
