Director Henderson. Yes. Thank you, Chair. I'm sorry to double back. I just have one question about the Fix-It Week that actually came up to my mind as you brought up that project. I realize that this is the last week and this weekend is a pretty short sample period, but it brings to my mind the closure brings up the potential longer term closure that comes up with the Islayas Creek Bridge. And so I just was hoping that when you all, after everything is done and we have some more information and lessons learned and maybe some data too, I just am curious if you could bring back some…
Thank you. I just have a question about one of the comments that you made about working with the SFPD on a similar type of treatment to Eddy Street. Was there an increase in enforcement from either the SFPD or from SFMTA's parking enforcement team once that implementation occurred?
OK, then I think that we've been presented with these sort of transportation improvements multiple times to solve for the social issue. And I think that it's fair to say changing the curb color, basically, or whatever. The treatment, the no stopping any time is not alone will not solve for the issue that SFPD has worked with us and requested. And so I think that moving this forward, I would hope that we can also have some very intentional dialogue about how how we will manage enforcement on this corner, particularly because they've requested it. Because I think that the expectation that we…
It's OK. The point that I wanted to emphasize was just the inclusion in the evaluation, the spillover impacts. And so it sounds like we're covered with the amendment. So I'm OK.
I appreciate the presentation and all of the public comment. And a couple of my questions you were able to answer director-wise before I could ask them. Because I think that from what I remember a couple of years ago, there was a lot of cities that would do like sort of public installations in the streets, especially as we were going through the pandemic and some of the protests and things like that. And so I was wondering if there were other cities or sort of best practices that we might be able to turn to to see how they considered the insurance issue, because I do think it's important to…
Thank you. And I have just maybe a couple of logistic questions. One, I'm just curious about the amount of time that this is. Is this a pilot, or is this something that would sort of be kind of forever, unless we change it?
Okay. And so then I would ask that if during that 24 months, if you feel like the sort of pace of the registrations is slow, then I would just ask that we revisit the process a little bit because it may be. this insurance issue. It doesn't sound like people would be not interested, but maybe there's some other reasons that make it slow. And then I think on the flip side, if we see that somehow it's able to take off in certain areas but not others, I would hope that we can look at those as examples to be able to see how we might connect those the areas where it's a little bit slow, connect…
Thank you. Quick question for you, Director Wise. I saw that you said that there's going to be some new red light cameras that are installed or made operational. And I'm curious if those are in addition to the ones that were in that first batch. Is this the new ones? Or this is just sort of the last phase of that first, I think it was about a year ago that they first launched.
And so the speed, I mixed them up. So my apologies. But the speed cameras are the same ones that were passed at the state level. We don't have any new ones.
Yeah, that's really what I was wondering, is there potential for us to maybe slow down some traffic using the cameras on other streets?
Got it. And then in terms of the this all just your report seems so that the scope of it is just so broad and very ambitious. And I just wonder, is there you know, what is the. Given our constraints, what are the biggest capacity challenges that you see that would impact being able to accomplish all of this?
Very good. Thank you. Excuse me. Very good. Thank you. And then lastly, just in hearing some of the public comment, I just am curious about about the safer schools. Because I think that we have the Y tab and their feedback. We've had, I think, some school and some folks come and talk to us about the transit side a little bit more when they're coming to provide some board comment. But I just wonder, do you anticipate that you'll be able to work with the community to move forward
And what I would ask is that if there's a way that we can be, or that I and others can be helpful in terms of increasing the level of community engagement to be able to support the work that you're doing, to raise awareness and to also hopefully get some people power behind some of the efforts that you have, then please do keep us informed about that. Because I think that that will hopefully, I know it won't fill the gaps in terms of the staffing and just the folks that you need to do this work. But I think that it's so broad. There's so much. And so I want to make sure that even with the…
There we go. Thank you. I have a couple of questions, specifically about the San Bruno and Paul, and then also that Gilman and Third intersection. But before I get there, I just want to understand a little bit. I'm looking at the past improvement slide. I think it's number four. And I'm trying to understand the progression of how we get here because I know that the 29 has gone through some evolution over I don't know the past 30 years or so you know in terms of the changes and I know the shift onto Ocean Avenue is relatively recent it seems like it happened in 2015 but how long does it take…
As part of the phase one, or that's separate from it?
OK, all right, then getting to the San Bruno and Paul. So can you just speak a little bit about why it's not ideal for the bus to make that turn, especially since you're removing the Bayshore stop and the Wheat Street stop? Is there a particular reason why the bus can't make that turn, stop there? And I think about an example of something similar. I mean, the slope is not the same, but San Bruno and Bacon, there's a stop that's pretty close to, you know, that's sort of... I think it's a 54 stop or something like that, but it's right up against the 101. And so I'm just curious if that is…
Okay, I think that that is, well, okay, and then my other question is around the signal at that stop, because I think, or on that corner, that intersection is one, two, three, I guess. The way the streets, they don't line up, and so there's this strange convergence of vehicles and pedestrians, and that corner in particular is very sharp. And so I think that that bus stop on the corner sometimes makes the cars coming off 101 or wherever they're coming from, but from coming down the hill towards Paul, it makes them try and go around the bus and end up nearly hitting pedestrians. trying to get…
Yeah, and I guess my concern is that with a wider lane and knowing that that activity happens quite frequently, that there may be even less margin for error because the the cars are turning in that, you know, going into the oncoming, they're going to be going basically into the oncoming traffic lane and then trying to make that turn around the bus. And I just, it concerns me a little bit. And so I would hope that we could at least do something better to make sure that cars are going at one time and pedestrians are going at, a different time, but also trying to make sure that that right turn…
Okay. All right. Very good. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you, Chair, and thank you for the presentation, Bree. I have one two-part question. Sure. I was hoping that you could just explain the slight over-expenditure in the salaries category, and if you can attribute that to any, like maybe the special events that have happened or something like that. And then also the part two of that is, do you expect to that even with the hiring of the transit fare inspectors and some of the other more essential positions, that you expect that category to still level out at around what you budgeted by the end of the fiscal year?
