“Yeah. Do you still operate a independent library board? Are they fairly active? Or is that kind of fizzled out over the years? And give me a little bit about that aspect of that.”

“Board appointments committees the library boards not on our Oversight is it that's that independent board or what? Pursuant to the P out municipal code appointments to the library board and made directly by the city manager. Oh say oh you oh you you do that What was the rationale behind? I'm just curious of history on that. I mean we appoint boards to every single You know aspect of our study, but why is this one independent? It's interesting. I think the council should look at that. Is this the only board that's independent that's appointed as kind of an oddity?”

“Yeah, so there's somebody on the council. But I think it sounds like the library is the only unique one that has no representation by the council and or is not appointed by the council committee. team, is that, or the council and direct, right? That's correct. Pursuant to the code. I'd like to take a look at that. Maybe have someone take a look at, is that something we want to incorporate with the rest of the boards as they have with every other board that we have as a process, unless there's some RCW that prevents us from doing that. “Oh, no doubt about Steve, but the council runs the city, and Steve works for us collectively, and I think if council wanted to, we could certainly implement that consistently. But don't doubt that he's not doing a great job. I don't doubt that at all. I do want to go back to the AI products of books. You mentioned that... As a library industry or as a library individually that you don't purchase or participate any AI developed books? Is that correct? Is that industry or just policy for this one?”

“Boy, that's interesting to me. Maybe there's some reasoning behind it, but it seems to me a little bit discriminatory if someone wants to use a tool. I remember the old days of coming out with a typewriter. If you did it handwritten, then we would buy it, but if you use a typewriter, we're not going to buy it anymore. That's interesting to me that that would be a disenfranchise of somebody. I mean, there could be a screening process, but to ban all works, writing works, that someone used an AI tool to put the information together is interesting to me. But this is a learning curve, right? So…”

“Thank you, Mayor Whitting. I can't believe I'm about to say this. I may get some some fans, might get a few non-fans, but I too enjoy the Fourth of July, but I was kind of wondering if maybe... Purell might at some point look at Not banning but limiting the amount of fireworks going off and deep into the night And I know that this is a 250th and I believe in you know blowing out fireworks and having a good time But it seems like every year seems to be a little bit more intense and I think about you know people are dealing with you know trauma and I think about animals and and tranquilizers…”
