Mr. Mayor? Yes. I'd like to pull under resolutions 26-764, please. Okay. Anyone else?
Yes. So this is a follow-up on the study session for us to pursue a Bird City designation. This is not any sort of ordinance or regulatory change at this moment, this is just simply instructing staff to examine the next steps, I am prone to very long emails So if you would like to see my ideas on the various things we can change to be more bird friendly. I am more than happy to share those with you. I got a lot of really great feedback from various organizations and individuals about pursuing this designation. I even spoke with Doug Cowan of Community Services League, and he sees it as a…
I move to approve item number 26-764. I second.
Yeah, I want to thank Congressman Cleaver and his staff for attending last week. Really looking forward to tackling such a prominent issue in our community with homelessness and housing affordability and just getting to work with somebody who worked so hard on passing a bipartisan bill like that. It's a great privilege to have them here in our community. That's all I have, actually. Thanks. Thank you.
Mr. Mayor? Yes. Yeah, I'd like clarification. So it seems like we're getting caught up between a requirement and a preference. Is it a requirement that they have an apprenticeship program, or is it a preference that would improve their score to be selected?
Mr. Mayor. Yes. If we re-bid about how long could that potentially
conditional approval process so at this point in time we don't have that information available to us because those inspections have not been conducted thank you any further discussion Mr mayor yes so this seems like a pretty extraordinary step that we wound up taking to revoke a business license and I think that would indicate at least to me that some pretty extreme things were happening there that were not being fixed, causing pretty extreme harm to that community. So I appreciate the research you did to give us those numbers and to show us how drastically things changed upon revocation.…
Is there a conflict of interest here for me, Jeremy? I think you're good. Okay.
We have a representative from Dillon's here tonight. Can we have that individual step up?
Yes. I've received some concerns about some residents in the back. You and I have discussed this with the grocery pickup in that area. There are some concerns about light and noise. I just didn't know if there were any plans to try to plant something, put a screen up, anything to kind of reduce that?
Mr. Mayor? Yes. I'd like to ask the city manager to kind of run down why this is a recommendation.
Mr. Mayor? Yes. I'd like to postpone this 30 days and reevaluate after we get some more information from Kansas City. Okay.
And can you run through just a timeline of why now, why we are able to do this now?
Yeah, I want to double up on Councilwoman Dorman's thanks to all of city staff and volunteers and participants. That was a lot of work in a short period of time. You all have a very loaded up plate already. So it was a tremendous event. I also want to give a special thank you to G.K. Callahan and the Master Gardeners for all of their work. That was just them volunteering. And to have so many dedicated volunteers participate in the city and showing that they do indeed love where they live is pretty cool. I hope that we... can build on that. I plan on continuing to do monthly cleanups just so…
I hate them so much. So I really appreciate that. And Dillon's Grocery, I'm so excited about that. I'm excited to see a vacant building get ticked off that list. I know it's something that everybody up here just really can't stand to see so many vacant buildings in this wonderful city. So looking forward to making some purchases there. Thanks.
Yes, I was wondering if the city manager could kind of compare our levy to surrounding areas if there's sort of just a high level discussion of where we stand as a city compared to surrounding areas.
Yeah, thank you. So last week, a number of us were able to attend the Missouri Municipal League Conference down in Lakely Ozarks. So if you were missing us last Monday and just really were wondering where we were, we were all learning about kind of the nitty gritty of how municipal governance works. It was a great opportunity to speak with leaders from other cities across our state and to learn about some things that maybe aren't necessarily on the public's radar all the time. Specifically, there was one session that I found really interesting that probably would bore most people to tears. It…
Motion passes to go into executive session.
