“Um, yes, I was able to do, um, my own research and analysis. Um, it's probably not as death as council members saying, but I do have three that I've narrowed it down to in regards to, um, possibly keeping the process moving. And I'm not sure how appropriate it is. uh, for how we would do that in public and name these, or if we're even at that point where if we're not comfortable enough to kind of do that, we need more information. Um, I can go either way, but I do have my selected, um, firms further discussion.”
“I was under the impression that's what the task was. So that's kind of where I'm at. And certainly more time to look more in depth and go over some more wouldn't hurt me and my process and what I think with that. So I just want to clear up that's what I thought the task was in regards to kind of making that decision for staff tonight. and I appreciate kind of really because I would have been surprised that this is your first time doing this because that's my leisure leaves my out I usually it's my first time so I'm kind of but I I want to get it right this much like our income tax much like…”
“Because I didn't realize kind of what was going to happen. I was going to announce this in our next, but I will not be here on the December 8th meeting. I'll be in Africa. But what I will say is that by the time we get to that meeting, you'll be very clear in my choices and why and what I have going on. So I don't want to, because I'm not here for personal reasons to delay something that's important for the process that's already in play. I wanted you guys to get to that point, and I'm very comfortable and confident in the fact that that discussion can happen productively without me. Again…”
“And that's why I think we should stick to December 8th meeting as usual.”

“So, Councilmember Meadows and Mayor, so for you, when you talk about your preference of four, you're leaning towards four, is the primary difference maker between three and four the interest?”
“haven't it already on the books so I think that's why I I'm leaning towards that one so and I apologize so the front-loading aspect of that with where we are financially this year next year and kind of some of the challenge we got coming up from your perspective are you thinking that that's the better route for us as opposed to the phase-up”
“And that's kind of where I'm leaning towards in regards to those concerns.”
“management and accessibility to the community is going to be a key, huge tool for us to be able to then look at some things down the road when it comes to income tax and the push to that. And I think you talked about transparency within that. A lot of times when it comes to not just East Lansing, but a lot of municipal websites, I mean, there's so much information there. And I can't speak for everyone, but I know sometimes when you go there, you're almost defeated with that amount of information and where to look unless you have the background of that. But I think generally for most residents…”
“backwards right so there has to be a snapshot of what the city was facing during those times as well just so you know it's an educated public so i was just going to say the same thing i think just you know with the climate that we're in now and some of the sensationalization of some of these different issues when it comes to that i think transparency and education tied in together is a beautiful thing”
“I wasn't here during that first push for that.”
“Yeah. And I always thought before I even got elected that that was going to be one of the most important things that we do the right way in that process to gear up for that. to get our community the appetite and preparedness of even considering it. Because I think honestly, from where I'm thinking, it's automatically a hard no right now, as opposed to what it was before. from the community from when I was campaigning so I think I absolutely agree with you a thousand percent that that process needs to happen sooner than later and we have a huge tremendous responsibility if in fact that is…”
“Wasn't the... the difference maker between being able to do something with the surcharge based off population. I heard that somewhere that cause we're under 50,000, that was the determining factor that limited us. I don't know if that's true or not, but that's what's in my head when you were talking about how Detroit's able to do that and we're not fancy policy makers crafted.”
“I just had a general question just based off the comments you made with the city manager and the transition we have and how we're looking at that marketing plan or that push. I'm just trying to understand where we're at with how we're thinking about that is that just is that pending the new person coming in or is this something that we're working on now as we gear up for that and that be something that we're going to expect our new city manager to kind of come in and prioritize i'm just i'm just kind of trying to wrap that in my head to where how we're thinking about that”
“I just was going to agree with you. I think that the institutional knowledge, if you will, when it comes to that, the training, if we're going to add another commission, this is probably the one that we add. It's a no-brainer. Whether it's quarterly or irregularly, I don't know. That's a different conversation, but I fully support that. I'm not sure I'd be the one as liaison in it, so it's easy for me to say, but I agree with what's been spoken on in regards to the possibility of that being fruition.”
“i don't know what people think about that if we have thoughts from staff or so is the difference between the task force more so the time commitment of it as opposed to like an ad hoc type situation it was it was more that the the task force timed out after a year by default just by time just by time”
“And so it helped me out here. So when you talk about ad hoc commission, what is that usually based off? I thought that was also based off time or is that responsibility?”
“So just, so I'm understanding what I'm hearing from you is the possibility of having Task Force Commission or what have you, are you saying that that would be helpful and coincide to what you're doing or you're saying that that would be an extra responsibility to manage in order to have it work in the capacity that we're talking about?”
“Yeah, I was going to ask you about that. Because, yeah, the permit's 80, but then, as you see there, you show there, 59. Is it that number? Is it more related to the capacity of the people that are doing it? Or is there another variable in there that? Because if the number's 80 and then we're trying to do this in a way that affects those numbers, why isn't it 65? Why isn't it 70, 75? So I was just curious about that.”
“If I'm just looking at that without that explanation, I'm just like looking, we're just doing reactionary stuff. We're not really managing. We're just reacting to try to. get through the next, you know, so the long term and just kind of really imagine it in a way that they really drive the numbers down when it comes to the overall population. So thank you.”
“I just had a quick question about when this comes back to us and we're looking at this overall, is there a way that we could see like a hotspot map of kind of where this is, or is that already included when it comes to... Can you say a little bit more about that? I'm just curious about where the problem is. You know, you talk about the hotspots or where they decide to... to do the calls. I'm just curious about where those areas are in our community.”
“I think I was misunderstanding kind of what the strategy is when they go in and do that because I don't know what the heck they're talking about when it comes to that, but I thought that the agency that does this goes into the spot where there's a lot going on. But you're saying, if I understand you correctly, they go into the areas they are allowed or have access to more so than particularly hitting a certain spot?”
