“I hope this will be quick. DataWorks closed almost a year ago. And so I know some of these are yearly, but not all of them. Some of them seem to be more regular data updates in the community training. So who has been doing that for Compass in the meantime?”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  3. Play at 1:35:08
“So was there something that was happening more regularly when DataWorks was in operation that we've sort of seen tailor off? Or is there really just this sort of once a year?”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  4. Play at 1:35:44
“okay i just i think that what was interesting for me was that in the memo it talked about how important it was to have continuity in the cycle and i understand obviously like having the actual data maintenance is probably the most important thing but it sounds like we have lost a bit of continuity in terms of the engagement and some other sort of community partnerships but i assume then that unc will be picking up Sort of where that got left off? Yes.”

“Thank you. Welcome. Thank you for your first report. I have a few specific questions and then I have one that I generally like to ask always. The first one is going back to the violent crime issue. I thought that you said that the number of shootings and victims per incident are down from last year. But we have also seen an increase of persons shot of 12 since last year. So I'm just wondering, were there that many more incidents? Or how do those two statistics work together?”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  6. Play at 2:43:24
“Okay. I thought you had said that the number of victims per incident were down, but I think that I could have written it down incorrectly because it didn't make sense with the data. So the number of... incidents are wait sorry do it again do it again for me the number of incidents so like um numbers are down yes but because there are more people involved you have to count the number of people and so there are more people present during that one incident and so we are seeing more victims per incident and also higher more shooting per incident”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  7. Play at 2:44:08
“And then on the recruiting, I just thought this was interesting. The most recent class, it was almost a 30-person recruited class, and you said 11 of them were Durham residents? Yes. So folks are driving in. from surrounding areas to come into work at dpd yes ma'am and we just we have a 35 mile radius for the take-home car policy was my next question okay and so we increased it as a recruiting tool and i think it it has been impactful okay that was actually my very next question um 30 35 miles yes and they just briefed me on that so i'm glad i could answer that one um And so I guess the kind…”

“And then I know that, as we see quite often, the – Firearms are such a huge target in so many of our thefts, but particularly in our motor vehicle break-ins. There was quite a lot of community education ongoing about securing firearms, and I was just hoping you could give us an update on sort of how that's going and if there's been any thoughts about more creative ways to get the info out there or how we get those firearms secured?”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  9. Play at 2:47:04
“Yeah, thank you. I appreciate your sort of targeting that. I think it's a really big piece of this. Obviously, we struggle, I think, a bit to track where a lot of our weapons are coming from. I think we probably have more work to do in that space as well, but I think that the securing piece, so many of them are weapons that are legally owned right just not secured so um i appreciate that and and i also appreciate the moving into schools which is my final question and i um am wondering if you can talk a little bit about the juvenile statistics that we saw in this quarter”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  10. Play at 2:49:08
“Yeah, and I appreciate that. We have in the actual report numbers of juvenile offenses, but in the past we've kind of talked about how those have shifted over time, and I might be just missing it in the report, but I was wondering if, and you might not know this off the top of your head, but just like what that looked like in this quarter as compared to prior quarters in terms of juvenile offenses. Yeah. And I'd be also interested in victims. And if you don't have that in front of you, I think a supplemental item would be great on that.”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  11. Play at 2:49:57
“Yeah. Thank you. Those are my questions. Thanks so much.”

    City Council · Sep 24, 2026

  12. Play at 26:58
“i believe it was councilman yes all right thank you um and this and i'm not sure if you have folks here from dpd some of these questions might be more specific to them but i'm curious um is this a a replacement or is this an addition to fleet right these are all replacements they're all replacements uh one car you know 32 cars are going off the street 32 new ones are coming on uh that are”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  13. Play at 27:48
“And so how often are we replacing? I know you said that we did a bulk last year.”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  14. Play at 28:43
“Okay, do you all have like a mileage marker that you start looking at?”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  15. Play at 29:06
“And then are they, what kind of vehicles are included in this?”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  16. Play at 29:36
“Okay. I mean, my next question, and you talked about it a little bit with the hybrid, which was are we looking at this in an environmental friendly light? Are we thinking about Obviously, these cars are going to be driven quite a lot. Are we thinking about the impact and the carbon footprint that we're having with the purchases?”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  17. Play at 31:34
“Thank you. Can you talk about the state contract exemption and the way that y'all are utilizing that?”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  18. Play at 32:28
“Okay. That was actually going to be my next question. And this is I don't really know much about this and is why I'm asking this question. But we've got the cost at almost about 51,000 per vehicle. We've got the upfitting then at an additional 16.7. So we've got 67,000. per vehicle, which seems expensive per vehicle to me as a like average consumer, especially given that we're sort of like sounds like we're buying in bulk and we're sort of utilizing some of these exemptions to get cheaper prices. I was just wondering if you could speak a little to that.”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  19. Play at 33:34
“cities and counties across the state also utilize the contract okay so this is just it's so specified because of the the needs um and then we also just signed a pretty massive contract to upfit and part of the um the axon contract included dash cams, and is that a separate expense from the upfitting that we're talking about here?”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  20. Play at 34:02
“Okay, and so can you just talk a little bit about what this upfitting, what's included in the $17,000-ish?”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  21. Play at 34:16
“Okay, thank you so much. Those are my questions.”

    City Council · Sep 10, 2026

  22. Play at 1:43:18
“I just want to echo what a lot of folks up here said, the sheer gratitude for the just absolute number of hours and energy and passion that everyone has brought to this plan. I think it's really apparent in how it's presented and what we're seeing in front of us now. A big thank you to everyone, both folks that have led this, but also everyone who's engaged with this process over the past couple of years. And also, I know leading up to that as well, it didn't just start two years ago. There's been conversations happening from before that time. i think that everyone has kind of stated a lot of…”
