• Mosquitoes testing positive locally for West Nile Virus
In Pennsylvania, mosquitoes are most active between April through October, when temperatures are above freezing. They tend to bite most often from dusk to dawn, but bites can happen at any time of day. Mosquitoes positive for West Nile Virus have been collected in neighboring counties this summer, including Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties. Positive samples have also been collected in several municipalities in Delaware County, including Radnor Township: o Encke Park adjacent to the Radnor Township Municipal Building ■ Sample collection date: 1 September 2026 ■ The Delaware County Health Department reports that mosquitoes in one of the traps in Encke Park set by the Mosquito Borne Disease Control Program tested positive for West Nile Virus. ■ The Radnor Township Parks Maintenance Division will continue implementing routine mosquito management practices to remove standing water collected in parks, on tarps, containers, etc. ■ Residents can also take 3 easy steps to protect themselves. ■ Drain Water: Remove standing or stagnant water from flowerpots, buckets, and gutters weekly. Be mindful of birdbaths and children's toys that hold water for more than 4 days. ■ Cover Up: Wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes, especially around dawn and dusk. ■ Use Repellent: Apply EPA-registered insect repellent containing DEET or picaridin.

- Delaware County residents to vote on a line of credit for land conservation
This referendum will be on the November 2026 PA election ballot. BACKGROUND: The Delaware County Council voted 5-0 to place a referendum on the November ballot asking voters whether they favor increasing the county's debt by extending an up to $120 million line of credit over several years to finance land conservation projects, including protecting drinking water sources, preserving wildlife habitat, providing trails and parks and protecting natural areas from development. The total burden on taxpayers owning the average home (~$400,000) would be $24 a year. The Delco Council could still apply for state and federal grants and continue to finance municipal projects if the referendum is approved. Parts of the county are plagued by repeated flash flooding from its many creeks. The money could be used to help communities to mitigate flooding by improving stormwater infrastructure and preserving wetlands that can absorb stormwater and reduce flooding, according to the county planning department. It can also be used to develop Delco Woods in Marple for parks, trails and recreation and to provide tools to resist data centers and large-scale warehouses.
